Weird Noise

My female dwarf gouramis ( i think its mainly at night) make a wierd noise near the surface, almost like a fast sucking noise. is it building a bubble nest??

If you are certain its a female, I doubt she would be making a bubble nest (its a male thing) . Gouramis have a labyrinth organ which allows them to breath air straight from the surface, the sound is probably her taking in air, at the top.
