is there java fern around that?

Thanks fishkiller-nomore. We have been pulling it off and some of the leaves affected. Will get rid of the rest.

TrueNoob, if you mean java moss, then no. We seem to have some of this on the java moss too though.

I had a real bad problem with that and regular hair algea, otos wouldn't touch it, nothing would touch it.

I picked up a pair of TRUE Flying Foxes and everything was gone in a week.

Do the flying Foxes eat the plants as well when the algae runs out? :look:
Not really mine might have a bash at the java moss if they aren't fed but in general they are well behaved.
Just feed them some cucumber now and then.

I've been thinking about getting SAE, are Flying fox's the same? Do you think they'll eat this staghorn Algae? I've got 5 Japonica/Amano Shrimp, 15 Otto's and three bristlenoses and none of them touch it. :/

The Flying fox you want is the Siamese flying fox or Siamese Algae Eater, (crossocheilus siamensis) the other Flying fox (epalzeorhynchos kalopterus) does eat a little algae but not much. It won’t eat thread algae.
The obvious difference between them is that the horizontal black band in the middle of the body does not go through the anal fin in the sae plus all sae fins are transparent while the flying fox has some black in the fins.

Loved your planted tank pics, BTW

Yes.. I have that algea too and it come up even thoguh i have not dosed any ferts in a week and a half and cut light into 6 hours in place of 8..

I was thinkign of getting this Siamese flying fox.. is is aggressive against cories? and does it try to suck the slime coat off of slow fish?

No the SAE are pretty docile, Ive had them in both my tanks , as juniors in my 60L and adult in the 120L
They can get to around 5-6 inches long and seem to do better in a small school ( no desks though :D )
Just do your homework on the id as there are a few lookalikes and as juvies they can be easily miss labeled in shops.

Thanks for that
I have the same algae and was hoping to get a siamese algae eater but had already picked up that they are often misslabled in fish stores. My lfs recommended decreasing the hours of light which I did and it has helped a bit.

well any special way to tell them appart?

Thanks all.

Has anyone got any pics of the SAE's? Do they only eat algae like the otos, or do they also eat shrimp pellets when you feed the other fish? HOw many would you suggest getting?
