Well i have had this tank running for a while and these fishes have been in the tank for about a week now and the older fish have been there for about over 2 years. My questions is i have some Cherry Barbs that show no signs of ich but love to rub against sand in the aquarium somtimes and this rock i have. I know some fish show this behavior when they have ich, but they show no symptoms of the disease. Is it possible they are absolutely fine and just do this? I am just curious to my fishes well being.

Wilder will give you a clue to what this is. 'Flicking' or rubbing against objects can also be a sign of internal or external parasites I do believe. Also, 'Slime & Velvet' can make them act this way too.

Do the fish show signs of extra mucus on their surface? i.e. a clear / white film.

What is their poo like? Is it clear / white / stringy ?

No they show no clear signs of any possible diseases. I was thinking of buying pimafix and melafix to put in the water and treat the fishes to be safe. But i want to know first if anything can possibly be wrong with them.

always had fish do this. Only fish Ive owned that I haven't seen do this is my danios. I call it normal.

Yea i was thinking it could be normal behavior, but i want to be on the safe side and want to see others opinions. I had a Gold Gourami many years ago that would always do this prior to releasing her eggs everyday.

what's your process for adding new fish? do you quarentine them for a while etc?

Yes i quarantine them for about 2 weeks prior to the addition of them to the main tank. The parameters are the same in that of the main tank and quarantine tank with the exception of the temperature is slightly higher in the quarantine tank. The quarantine tank didnt have any sand or rocks like the main tank and started doing that when they were added to it.
