Weird filmy white algea?

I am setting up a new 10 gallon aquarium.
However I noticed weird white filmy stuff forming on the bottom of some plant roots:

At first I that it was just sap or something leaking out, but then I saw it all over the thermometer too:

Can anyone tell me what this is and how to get rid of it?

I had the same stuff after placing spider wood in a new tank. And the wood had been boiled first. It went away on its own in a few weeks. No harm. No foul.
