Ok I just set up a tank in my room today and I'm gettin a betta in it this weekend. Its got fresh water, a rock from outside (yes i boiled it) and an old silk plant. I but an oxygen stone in there today and left it for about 15 minutes. by the way the tank is 5 gallons. so anyways when i went to go look at it there are lots of bubbles collected on the plant, rock, and side of tank. Also there is a continuous stream of bubbles coming from a crack in the rock. I'm hoping its just oxygen being released but if anyone knows if it might be something else please help me out.

It could well be trapped air in the rock and a good way to see if the rock is ok for your tank is to take it out and pour a little vinegar on it. If it bubbles then its not suitable.

theres a big lava rock in my tank. when i first put it in it bubbles for 2-3 days. Then it was fine. I suggest leaving the rock for a couple days, it should stop bubbling

yep mine bubbled to, and the glass had bubbles collecting on it..perfectly normal! :fun:

Yea thanks everyone, the bubbles stopped and I did the vinegar test on the rock and its also fine. I kind of figured it was just oxygen but i only put it on the emergencies thing because most people will post back quickly. Thanks again
