Hello all Im new here. I've had a 35 gallon tank set up for almost two years. I currently have one chinese algea eater , one angel , one catfish(not sure about species) and one chocolate cichlid named Apollo. everything has gone great except for high nitrate levels which led to the loss of 2 angel fish. I am concerned about a weird algea growing in my tank. It's growing from the air tube and it's like a plant. It latches onto the fish if they swim into it and the fish seem to have a hard time getting unlatched. Has anyone else had this?

can you discribe this algi.
hair like? if so its hair algi and i cant see it causing much harm to your fish. i would try to remove it though.
how big is your chocholate cichlid? these fish grow pretty large and i think rehoming it would be approprite as it grows larger?
dany.

The algi is hair like and I will remove it sometime today. I don't plan on rehoming Apollo.

Sounds like thread algae to me, long thin strands which are more like hair than hair algae is.

What are the nitrate / phosphate levels of the tank?

If the tank planted?

How big are the fish?
