my male guppy is acting a little funny. he's been having little spasms lately. like he'd bend his tail so he looks like he as a bent spine deformity, and then just kinda twitch for a little and move a little backwards. also, i think he's getting a little more black in his coloring than he had before there's a line on the left side of his face going to almost mid-body. i think maybe his eyes got more black too, im not so sure. and the blue shimmer on his tail comes and goes.

anyone know what could be going on with him? he does it facing towards the female guppy. should i remove him from the tank? or is it normal behavior?

Sounds like you can expect some babies soon. He was breeding with your girl guppy. :*) No sense in seperating them. He won't make her sick...except maybe give her morning sickness! :D Good luck!

Why is it offensive?
it is a very bad way of describing an illness.
There are several members on here that have
relatives that suffer from that illness.

This thread has been reported.

I'm not sure what illness you're refering to but I have a feeling there is a bit of a cultural difference going on. I think (of course I may be way off) the folks in the UK use this term for an illness us here in the states call something else. I don't think the author meant anything by using that term but I agree he/she should change it so as not to offend anyone.

Hey now, I have a retarded fish and a retarded relative. Big deal. It's not that anyone's saying these things with bad intentions. It's simply a descriptive term. Trying using the dictionary.

wow, sorry guys, i wasnt trying to be offensive. i didn't even know that title could be offensive. :dunno: anyways, title changed.

OMG thats even worse, I hate there term and I hope you don't use it in front of your relity.

I suffer from a mentle illness, and I hit anyone that call me that word.

Thankyou Ami, for understanding, sorry for hi jacking your thread.

Your fish may be retarded ..... Sorry if I insult anyone but the only thing I mean by it is a physical or mental disability .... Using retarded and retardation are completely different then calling someone a "retard" in a way to be crule ... I too have friends troubled by a disability but I don't treat people with disabilities than other people ..... There are some who thinnk I should have pitty on them but for simple things I don't ... Of course I don't mind helping them when the NEED help but personaly I would be infuriated if someone tryed to treat me "special" just because I was disabled ...... I recently had a firend that was crippled and we get along just as we used to and he thanked me for going on because it helped him too move on also ......

I understand what you are saying.

I just feel the term is very out dated, and although it is not ment in a nasty way, some people stil genralize, and lable everyone under the same. Just think what is you fist though of someone when you think of the word.

I dunno maybe I over reacting, but I know if someone called me that word, I'd hit them.

I remember when I went to America; I was a little taken aback at some of their wording for disabled people. I'm disabled myself and I immediately took offence at being referred to as 'handicapped', 'invalid' or a 'cripple'

After a while though I realised there was no malice intended, it was just their turn of phrase. I just thought it was odd, coming from a nation that was otherwise so P.C.

I think generally we just need to relax a bit and think, not about the wording, but about the intent behind the wording. The connotations behind words can vary so much from one culture to the next that it's just impossible for us to truly speak the same language.
