Hi there.

I have a weekend feeder in my tank. It's there because my snail's shell is growing very weak and i hear that if they graze on the feeders than the calcium helps them rebuild stroger shells.

Is there any harm in the feeder being in there and me feeding regularly?

I believe those things tend to pollute the water. Look at the pinned topics about what's in your water and how to deal with it (I think) It should help you raise your KH...I think that's what your trying to do right?

I've never found a problem with weekend feeders and found as long as you vacum clean the tank after you return that its fine and is good if you get the 7 day feeder and if you gone for a week and can't get someone else to feed them while you go out, keeps the fish full. :hey:

I wouldn't use additional foods whilst a feeder block is in there, your fish will probable be constantly nibbling at it anyways, so wouldn't be to hungry for more.

I believe there's several foods out there aimed directly at invertebrates to help there shells. You may be best off using one of these.

Yes im looking into those, home sick though. I have some feeders so i figure there's no harm in popping one in.

The reason I ask is that my frog and betta won't make use of these feeders. I understand that feeding will simply add to the pollution but if i monitor it, then it should be fine right?

If I do choose not to feed, will it be ok introducing my new zebra danios on the weekend and not feeding them the first day or so?

Perhaps ill only leave the feeder in tonight and remove it in the morning. That way the calcium content in my water will have risen a little bit and ill be able to feed.
