Ways To Clean Sand

I know this question is kind of dumb but would any of you know and easy way to clean sand? I am wondering because I am planning on cleaning the sand that I am going to buy for the new tank that I am getting. I'm not sure how withought haveing it all go downt he drain...

Hey, when I decided to use sand for my tank what I did was put some of it in a bucket, and fill it up with water with a hose, and kind of stir it up, and let all the sand dust run out over the edge of the bucket. I did this until the water ran relativley clear. After it's in the tank, i take out some of the rocks/plants and fish, and simply run the net back and forth through the tank to catch some of the waste deposits, hope this helps!

You cant siphon it like you would gravel.. What i would do is take your siphon and hold it over so you are gently lifting up the waste and not so with the sand.

Thats kind of how I clean my gravel devin, but I put it in a cake pan. I never thought about a bucket which would be deep enough so the sand doesn't flow out.... lol... I guess I was haven't kind of a blonde moment.
