Ways Of Planting Java Ferns?

I just got a whole bunch of java ferns that I want to plant in my new tank (hope my silverdollars wont eat it). And I was wondering, when you secure them onto a rock of a piece of wood, do you do it so that the whole long leaf/stem is tied to the rock/wood? or just one side of the stem secured on the rock/wood so it looks like its standing up?
I plan to make my aquarium floor look like a jungle, so some of the ferns will have to be planted directly into the gravel standing up. Hope this is ok.

The ferns I got are all stems, like one gigantic piece of leaf, got like at least 20 of them. Most of them already have baby ferns growing on the leaves.

Im not a hundred percent sure on what your trying to describe
Lets talk furns then. The furn "Usualy" has a rhizone from which the leaves will grow. The rhizome musnt be berried under gravel etc. You need to fix it to wood or fijji/tuffa rock with cotton thread. If you only have the leaves from a freind, but the leaves have plantlets along them, tie the leaf along length of the peice of wood, with the underside of the leaf facing up. That should work, its worked fro me.

The "stem" that you're talking about is the rhizome, I believe. I think that's what confused me (and the other readers, probably), cause leaves can't grow leaves/ferns ontop of them, haha.

You'll want to tie the whole rhizome down to the rock/wood. You see the direction the baby fern leaves are growing? That's up, and the roots will be growing down... the rhizome is sandwiched between the two, held lengthwise. So that's the way it'll be tied down! ^__^

I guess now I have to go and flip those leaves around, cause they are not the right side up x_X
