Hi I would like to understand how can a person put unconditioned water in their tanks? I have read that you have a Python hooked to your faucet and add that water in your tank. Then add the water conditioner direct to the tank. Wouldn't that unconditioned water even for a few minutes mess with the parameters? I have buckets and add conditioner to the water before adding to tank. Thanks.

Only chlorine is in my water. I go from tank to tank, adding the water treatment/dechlorinator (in my case). Then I refill. I try to use the hose to agitate the water, to gas off as much of the chlorine as I can. That's it, that's all.
I've had zero difficulties using that technique over the past 30 years with a multiple tank set up.

I don't have to deal with chloramines though.

Its been a few years since I used tap water or dechlorinator, but I did it the way @GaryE describes. The advice in those days was if you were mixing in a bucket add enough dechlorinator for the bucket. If you were adding directly to the to the tank add enough dechlorinator for the entire tank.

I measure the water temperature with a IR temp.gun at the tap before starting to refill the tank. At the tank I have my pre measured amount of dechlorinator ready to go. Then I just flip the switch. A mere two seconds of tap water come out before I can pour in the dechlor. No big whoop.

I don't add enough dechlor for the whole tank, just for the change. Sometimes, I just gas off the chlorine.

BUT, hearing from people who deal with chloramines might help the OP. Chloramines are a tougher problem, than old fashioned, easy to handle chlorine. I live in a region with excellent water sources, but not all of us do.
