I've just had a thought.
While making my son's bottle, I realise that we use cooled boiled water because it is sterilised from all the copper, chlorine etc.
So, could we not also use the cooled boiled water for our fish?

Yeah, Chibi, like I said - when making bottles, its cooled boiled water.

I think it must be a reasonable way of doing it, since the whole point of boiling the water for the baby is to get rid of all the chemicals and harmful stuff in the water and sterilise it..

ETA: The reason I'm saying this, is because people say you have to let the water sit with treatments to get rid of all this stuff - but surely this would be an easier way?

you can, but tap water (delcord) has more nutrients and trace minerals that arnt harmfull to fish and the fish accualy need them.

Boiling water will sterilize it, but it will not remove any minerals or traces of metals such as copper. The distilling process will remove these.

but distilling will remove a lot of other things so you would still need to replenish with something.

I think it's just better to use tap water and add a dechlorinatator. Boiling the water then waiting for it to cool takes too long...
