Ok this may be really stupid of me but what does everyone calculate their water volume by US or UK gallons? I've been doing mine by UK gallons but I've noticed alot of people seem to do it by US, so just wondered which is the one that people generally use, esp. when it comes to the inch per gallon rule? Because if it is UK my largest tank is 55 gallons if it's US then it's approx. 65 gallons which means I'd have an extra 10 inches of fish space, I wouldn't be adding anymore but it's just so I know.

I am in the UK, so I use Imperial gallons (though more commonly just give dimensions). Many people prefer the US gallons because it make their tanks sound bigger.

any 'rules' like 1" per gallon or wpg are worked out in US gallons, therefore I use these when talking about my tanks (and would encourage others to do the same) so if people want to assess stocking, lighting levels etc then they don't have to try and convert it.

in all honesty it doesn't matter as long as you state which one you are using.

i agree most people use US gallons in forums, i do even though im in the UK, although litres is good makes people think. :)
