hey
the water in my area is very hard can anyone tell me a way of softening it up additive or otherwise?

what do you class as very hard?


bog wood is a good natural way of dropping the PH.

How hard is your water ? Mine is around 17 - 19 gH (just about solid rock! ) and 11kH with a tap pH of anything between 7.4 and 8.4. For the fish you propose to keep (rainbows, botia kubotai and kuhli's) you'll be absolute fine. Just add some bogwood and that will slightly (slowly) reduce your pH.
