Three of the most important tests you can have once you've worked out your ph etc is the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate kits. If you have fish in your tank you would hope that your readings would be zero for ammonia and nitrItre, and a max of around 40-50ppm of Nitrate which if too high you reduce by doing a water change or adding plants can help reduce them too.

A little shameless self-promotion: I recently worked out some charts that tell you when your ammonia is definately too high (hopefully you correct the situation before you get too high):

Though, those show the worst case scenarios. Ammonia and Nitrite should read zero every time after the tank is cycled, otherwise there is a problem that needs to be remedied.

So could you tell me if these are ok please? :S

Ph 6.8
Alkalinity Kh ppm 25
Hardness GH ppm 7
Nitrate NO ppm 10
Nitrite NO ppm 0.1

and i will get a ammonia one soon.
