ok just got test strips and did a test

current test results (Not co2 yet)




Alkalinity KH: 20ppm
PH: 6.4

is this ok or bad please let me no thanks

when you say the test results are 'not co2 yet' do you mean you dont have co2 on the tank, or you haven't tested for co2?

I referenced the 2 numbers to a co2 chart http/www.floridadriftwood.com/page.asp?id=16, and kh of 20 isn't even on the chart. But going on the assumption that the high level only get higher with increased kh, you have waaaay to much co2 in the tank, by over 100ppm.

Can you give some more info on the tank? Wether you use co2, how many plants you have?

Jen, hotspicy74 mentions KH 20ppm this would be the same as 1.1 KH in degrees so this would be the equivelent of 13ppm co2 at a ph of 6.4, but its still unclear as to what the results are from........tank......tap......with co2 without co2 etc

i have not put co2 un the tank yet and i have only got 2 plats in there i have ordered new once which should be comeing on tuesday

Ok i can see the test kit in the link provided, basically i doubt if the testkit is very accurate i think its pretty useless TBH, with a KH of 1.1 degree i would expect to see a ph somewhere around 7, the testkit does not give accurate enough information for the ph, increments of .4 are to wide to be able to check co2 levels accuratly and the same goes for all of the other ranges as well KH GH etc they seem to go in increments of 50 which is way to much to be of any help.

You will have to buy seperate ph and KH testkits and these will be much more accurate, buy a ph kit thats gives the ph value in a minimum of .2 steps, i use an API ph kit and find it accurate, for KH i use a Nutrafin kit (this kit will also do your GH as well) i also find this kit quite accurate.

Im sorry but it may have been a waste of your money with the kit you bought off ebay personally i would say its no good at all and would be impossible to trust given the wide margins the kit is working from.
