I have done my water tests tonight on my new tank...

PH - 6.0 (From Tap - 6.5)
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20

I set it up at the weekend, but used 50% matured tap water and an already working and matured filter.

How are these stats looking?

I plan to keep - 1 x Blue Acara
- 1 x Rainbow Cichlid
- 1 x BN Pleco
- 4 x YoYo Loach
- 8 x Red Serpae Tetra

Is there a reason why PH is lower in tank than from tap?

Cheers

something in the tank lowering the ph? thats my guess anyway....

Does bogwood raise or lower PH? I remember reading something a while ago about that.

Also do plants affect PH?

Is PH of 6 OK?

Cheers

Thanks for that mate.

Is PH 6.0 OK? I thought that it should be 7.0-8.0?

What about the other readings?

I know that Nitrite and Ammonia are meant to be Zero, but i thought that Nitrate should be about 40ppm?

Cheers

No, the lower nitrate the better. You probably misheard - below 40ppm is better.

The tank water move makes no difference - its the filter media that contains nitrifying bacteria. And as others have said, bogwood lowers pH - and in the past I've found certain dechlor's affect pH.

What size tank?

Cheers mate,

Seems like results are fine then.

Tank is 240 Litre, Juwel Rio 240.
