Well it is getting pretty cold in Florida, and its the first time I have gone through a christmas with my fish. My question is, what is a good water temperature for my convicts? as I will be buying a heater today.
Convicts are very hardy. Axelrod's book "The Encyclopedia of Freshwater Tropical Fishes" says "Not particular about water...temperatures between 20 and 27 C." When I had convicts I kept their temperature at about 22.
Since it's your first winter (and thus, first time?) with fish, maybe you'll soon get to experience breeding convicts! Get a male and female alone and give them a flat rock overhang or something.
I'm looking into Convicts myself, as I've wanted a breeding pair for awhile, I just fear the aggression x.x
They are very open on temperature, high 60's to mid 70's (I see you are in the US, those are F temperature ); to promote breeding, use the higher end of the 70's
