This may be a silly question but I’ll ask it anyway. With summer approaching how do you keep your water temperature in check? Will turning down the temp on the water heater do, or will I need to do additional water changes to keep the water temp from rising too much?

Most heaters have a thermostat so wont turn itself on after the desired temperature, you just need to keep the room reasonably cool.

there are several ways of preventing the tank "overheating" in the summer.

keep tank lights off
keep hood open (if you don't have jumping fish, like danios)
half fill two 1ltr pop bottles with water and place in freezer, once frozen
place one in the tank. when that is defrosted, place the second one in there and put old one back in freezer.
aim a desk type fan at the waters surface or the front glass.

there are many more but those are quite effective inho

Yeah it’s the ambient temperature of the room affecting the tanks I was thinking about, I mean short of installing air conditioning there are fans of course but I don’t think they would be enough. by the summer I’ll four tanks up & running if I’m right the bigger tanks will hold there temp better than the smaller ones because the volume of water. But even the heating being on effects my 20uk gallon tank.

Cheers wolf the water bottle idea sounds best as I do have zebra danios not that I’ve seen em jump but the lid up idea is not good for me as we have cats & I fear one of them going for a swim.
