Hi all...

It has been a while since i have been on the forum, and finally got the time to get back on :) Recently, Sydney's Dams have just had a whole heap of rain, and filled the dam up quite a bit... But the drawback is that now there is some bacteria or sometihng lurking about in the water.

I was talking to one of my neighbours who also has a fish tank (we help each other in times of need ). She was saying that now because they have added more chlorine into the water, its best that you boil it first, and then put it in.

That sems to be the going way now, wouldn't you think? She lost a couple pf fish because she put normal water in...

What do you reckon? Should i boil it, or just keep on doing what i am doing?

well i would boil it, if your friend said some of her fish died because of it then theres no point loosing more fish.

Yeah i thought so... Better to boil 100 jugs of water and be patient and not loose fish :)

I have the same problem here during foul weather, increased bacterial levels forces the water company to increase chlorine & chloramine. Double or triple dose with a quality water conditioner such as Seachem's Prime or Tetra's Aquasafe. I change out 300 to 400 gallons weekly, there is no way I would consider boiling that amount of water.

Another advantage to the two water conditioners mentioned is that they take care of heavy metals, another problem I have here during bad weather, and is something you may be encountering as well. Boiling will not remove these.
