Water Stat For Goldfish

Yes they do ammonia has to be 0 so does nitrite, only thing different is the temp.
They need large tanks and excellent filters.

i set up a tank yesterday. and the readings today are
ammonia 0.25
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
and it was seeded from my other tank.

How much longer should i wait before i transfer it?

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
What type of goldfish.

it is a 9g tank, common goldfish.
This will be a temp home until i can either can another home for him or i can get some money to buy a bigger tank.

we originally had 6 goldfish in the tank, then my mother died and we inherited this one that we have now. The other 6 died over time and this one has just lived on and on. We didnt think he would live that long after the original tank change. Which was over 2 years ago.

it is a common goldfish, and until recently i didnt realise how long they lived for, and i cant wait another 5/10 years just to run a tropical tank. My friend has a pond, do you think he would survive if he went in there now? Or should i just rehouse him to my other tank.

I dont have enough room to be able to run a second 20g tank.

Meant to add them to ponds in the spring I think.
Wait for some replys they will tell you more.

Its too late now to put in a pond and expect him to survive a winter.
If you dont want him any more then take him to a pet shop. He will die if left in the 9 gallon. 20 isnt really adequate either and as he is over 2 years then he should be at least 6 inches long.

Common goldfish really do best in ponds due to their large size and high activity levels, the average common goldfish given enough space can easily grow to over 10inches long. If you are thinking about getting a tropical set up, why don't you just buy a large tank now, keep the goldfish in it until spring comes and the weather warms up, and then just put the goldfish in a pond and use its old tank as a tropical tank?
9 gals is too small for goldfish, even with tropical fish its considered a very small tank and there is only a limited small amount of tropical fish that can happily go in a 9 gallon tank. You might as well get a 20 to 30 or more gallon tank now as this will give the goldfish a much better quality of life right now, and will also serve as a very decent sized tropical fish tank when you rehome the goldfish to a pond next year  .
