Was just given some little sprigs of water sprite over the weekend. Was told to float them with the little water cabbages also given.

Now I am noticing the fish are having a good ol' nibble on the roots, picking the 'fuzz' off them, leaving just the skinny strands. :X I don't know how harmful this will be to them (the plants), and I'd really like to keep them thriving since I love the lacy look of them.

Should I plant them in the gravel (laterite base)? Or will they do better floating? Any info on the water cabbages as well? I really don't know anything about these 2 plants...

I have them both planted and floating. It's alright if the fish nibble at them, the plant will survive, its very very hardy. In my tank, the floating plants grow a lot faster than planted, as the floating ones took over the top in about 3 months.

Yeah water sprite is pretty hardy. I would leave some at the top until it looks like it has a decent root system going on and plant it. It can make for a pretty nice background plant.
