Have a new 10g fry tank set up to deal with unexpected babies. Bought a nice size clump of floating water sprite thinking it would good for the fry. Will the water sprite do OK with regular bulbs in the el cheapo 10g hood? How many hours per day should I leave them on? Any general comments on the use of water sprite? Thanks!

Water sprite is very easy to grow. I have some growing in tap water in an ice cream bucket just getting room light. (no ferts or anything)
Standard bulbs do fine. Mine took over my tank with plain gravel and no ferts. I had it in a 10g with lighting that came with the tank. It will even grow with incandescent bulbs. I have done that too.
It does like a little trace though it is not a must. (ime)

Do you know the wattage of the light? As its a new tank you might do best leaving the light on for about 5 hours a day, and gradually increase that to maybe 9 or 10 hours a day after several weeks to try and avoid an algae break out.
