with the recent lack of rain in parts of the uk - people are beginning to conserve water especially when on a water meter

i was wondering whether rain water - (which apparantly has less of a hardness than tap water) be a way to reduce possible problems with using tap water and also cut down on using water?????

1) is rain water better than tap water?

2) would there be significant levels of pollution in rain water?

3) does it need to be de-chlorinated?

just a few questions that i been thinking about !!!! - and i suppose.........if you dont ask you dont get to know!!

:look:

Unless you live in some third world country, tap water will be better than rain water.

There are significant pollutants in rain water, even if you live out in the country. Acid rain is a problem in the Amazon, it doesn't get much more remote than that.

Rain water doesn't need to be dechlorinated, but if you have to use it you would need a water treatment that deals with heavy metals. This is one of the few situations where I would reccommend running carbon, as that would remove any organic pollutants.

With the lack of rain where would the rainwater for the fish tanks come from?

The problem isnt so bad yet that you need to worry about using water for water changes, if it does get that bad then there is something seriously wrong with this countries water supply.
