Hello,
I don't post a whole lot but do read quite a bit. I haven't kept any tanks for a few years and am about to set up a 55gal. My problem is that I just purchased a home with a well. The water quailty is great. My question is that I have always had treated city water and not used a well. Is there any special steps I need to take as far as water preperation while cycling the tank. Thanks

Well if the water is good then water should be fine. Do you have any other tanks if so you can just clone your 55g and if you don't know what cloning is just ask me.

While well water doesn't contain chlorine or chloramine, it does contain traces of heavy metals at times. A good water treatment that contains EDTA will lock up those elements into a form that is not harmful to fish.

Test for organic compounds in the well water. Such as nitrites and nitrates. Also, well water has very little if any dissolved oxygen. You might want to aerate the well water before using it in your tank. Check the ph level of the well water. Some wells have traces of lime from the lime deposits in the water table. Lime will increase your pH and make the water hard.
