I know that when we think of water quality we think of nitrite, ammonia, nitrate, ph etc. but i was just wondering if there was anything else in the water that we cannot monitor by test which may be affecting our fish?

I guess the nutrients and beneficial bacteria. Also most test kits cannot test for phosphates.

I am sure there are other things, especially for marine fish keepers but I don't thin there really is any need unless you are worried about something specific. Most problems in aquaria come down the the things we all measure already.

Phosphates, as David mentioned, is a good one if you have algae problems or want to grow plants.

I have a Phosphate (PO4) testing kit manufactured by Nutrafin.

What about metals? Otherwise I agree with Cheese Specialist...if there were dissolved substances found regularly in either our tap water, or in a stocked tank, that could harm our fish, there would probably be a test kit for it (you would hope)
