Hi

I need some advice, i usually buy my R/O water from a local retailer but carrying 25 litre containers back and forth is a real pain in the A$$, i was thinking of getting either of these

API Tap Water Purifier
http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/catalogue...ion-systems.asp

or an

R/O unit
http://www.paraquatics.co.uk/media/4stagewithdi.jpg

now i have a 240 litre tank about 52 Uk Gallons i think that works out at, so my questions are

i would only need the R/O unit to product enough water to do the water changes when i do my 2 weeks 20% water change, can it be plugged/unplugged for as and when i need it as all the R/O units i have seen usually produce about 50G a Day ! which is no where near the amount of R/O water i would need

or

would i be better going for the tap purifier which i can just pluging when i need to produce the "new water" when i need it to ?

bit confused about the whole R/O thing really :S

any advice would be gratefully

Cheers

Gareth :good:

How about a 75 or 100GPD RO membrane ;). Those API kits run out quick and are exceptionally costly in the long run. RO units can produce thousands or tens of thousands of gallons of water before they need replacing, those API kits go bad after like 70gallons. Do the math ;)

And check out osmotics for your RO stuff, they're a TFF sponsor and have good deals :)

Pretty dumb question i know but are these R/O units constantly producing water or are the switched on and off?

Fair question m8, it was something i was wondering as well really

thanks for the reply guys, the osmosis unit that is linked above i take it needs to be somehow integrated into my houses's water supply under the sink ? or can it just be run via the tap when i need to produce the water (cant see the misses being happy with me hogging the sink for hours at a time though :))

no they don't just pump out constantly, you have them on a tap and turn them on and off as you need them.

definately look into the osmotics units, we've got one and are really pleased with it, excellent service from them and the unit is great.... plus you get a 105 discount for being a TFF member ;)

I read somewhere though that they shouldn't be unplugged for periods of times due to the membrane drying out or something ? can I just plug it into the kitchen tap and use it when I need to do my water changes every 2 weeks ?

osmotics sounds good to me?
How do we get our discount for being TFF members is there a promo code when buying online ?

you do need to keep runnign water through them every couple fo days, but just running enough to do top off every couple of days will be fine, the osmotics units are really easy to flush too which cleans out the membranes
