Water Prep

Im looking for a good relatively inexpensive way to prep my water for my aquarium. My current PH of tap water is around 8-8.4 and has a lot of solvents in it. I want to get this number around 6-7 ph and remove some of the water hardness. If anyone has an suggestions i would love to hear them.

It may be a bit on the dear side but maybe a RO/DI system?
