What is your experience with water polishing? I heard about the diatom filter but it is quite expensive. I am thinking to use a powerhead fitted with a Hagen's QuickFilter. My tank is 32 gallon and it is moderately planted with yeast-based CO2 injection. I have the following concerns:
  • Will the powerhead QiuickFilter combo give me a satisfactory result?
  • which powerhead would you recommend? Should I pick the one with flow control?
  • To polish the water, do I need to keep the powerhead on all the time? I have CO2 injection and i don't want the CO2 wasted due to the increased water agitation.
TIA.

Nikki

(ps. my water chemistry is quite good. As is, the water is quick clear but I can see minute pariticles not pick up by my AquaClear power filter)

if there are particles you can ctually see, they should be big enough for the filter to catch

particles to small to be catched by the filter will just seem cloudy.

Maybe your mechanical filtration is not working too good right now in your current filter, or maybe your filter is clogged so water just overflows right back in your tank?

Well, I can see some particles. They aren't big andthey look like very fine dust. There is also a very thin white haze. I use the lowest flow rate for the filter so that I can max. the contact time for the biological filtration. I am hoping polislhing the water will make the water crystal clear.
