Water Perimiters Check.

Hi,

Could anyone advise me if there my water perimeters are ok - first time so unsure whats generally safe or not safe. - At present I'm doing 75% water changes every 2 days and adding melafix and aquarium salt to fix fin damage.

Nitrate = 5.0
Nitrite = 0
ammonia = 0.25

I would do a small water change tio try to bring the ammonia down to zero You don't want him sitting in toxic water do you? I thought using mature media from one of my other tanks would be fine but just tested and got ammo so have done a water change immediately. When cycling, I always water change the minute I see ammo or notrite tbh, err of the side of caution.

Any sign of ammonia in a test reading is evidence of toxic water and it's very unhealthy for your fish. Do a water change, no more than 50%.

I did the test around half an hour after a water change earlier on today! Do another water change now?

I would do another water change if I got an ammonia reading.

That is one pretty fish you got, do as many changes as it takes over the next few weeks to make things right. it will be worth it!
