so i got a 5.5 gal tank saturday jun 9 2012. i've been cycling it for 5 days already. i tested it today and the readings are------ > .25 ammonia, 0 nitrate, 0 nitrite, and pH is about 7.5.... i'm planing a guppy tank. and also the tank is really cloudy and I'm doing a fish less cycle.

i've been doing research and people say that there should be 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and something nitrate.

so my questions are..

1. are my water test results normal?
2. if my nitrate stays 0 is it normal?

THESE ARE THE PICTURES OF MY TANK (clear and cloudy)

So you've been adding ammonia, right?

it's normal to start off to have ammonia levels (because you add ammonia), basically in the end when the tank is cycled, that's when it should be 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite. NitrAte is the one that should be present at the end (it's not as dangerous to fish, only dangerous at high levels)

cycle is ammonia -> nitrite -> nitrate

just keep monitoring your water, it will take around 6 weeks to cycle I believe.

i actually use fish flakes instead of ammonia products.
