I have a friend visited me recently, he saw my tank and pop-up an interesting question.

"The water in your tank looks stagnant, do you think is good to add a small pump to help the water to circulate better?"

I have filter in the tank and I can see some movement in the water through the movement of leaves (slight movement). Is that still considered "stagnant"?

Shall I add extra pump?

A small powerhead wouldnt do any harm. Moves around the nutrients and CO2 in the water to all plants and would help agaisnt algae.

Is that common to add a pump in a planted tank? I never notice one in others tank yet. And I am worrying in the way to hide it as it will spoil the whole look of the tank if it is not be placed properly.

Ive always had the idea of doing it but havnt seen anyone do it so I havnt. Just put it in one of the back corners and face it towards the middle of the tank. I know Diana Walstad used powerheads in her tanks for water movement (she had tanks that didnt have filters, just plants and the powerhead for water movement).

Thank you for the info Fred.

Just to double check with you, by having an extra pump, the purpose are;

- To balancely spread the nutrients and CO2
- Less algae

Are there any other benefits you could think of?

Yes that's correct. Cant think of any more benefits.

OK, thank you so much Fred. I will think about this before making the decision in getting an extra pump for the tank. ;)
