Hi there , I'm new to the form so hi to everyone....

Just got a question my tank seems to be losing a little water.....Its got no leaks in the tank, but everyday i check the fill line and it seems to drop abit each day ?
Could this be due to when i lift the lid i've got moisture on the lid ?
Its really bugging me....
Any help please ?
Cheers

The more openings there are in your cover, the faster the water will evaporate. Just leave enough room for filters and heaters and close off everything else. That should slow the evaporation (it my also prevent losing a fish too).

Thanks very much for your replys.....yea i have a few air holes in the top of my tank.... maybe i should shut them off.....
cheers

i like my hood more open.then i not only do a water change every 2 weeks, but a natural change every other day

What do you mean a natural change every other day ? .......add water to your tank ?

I'm of the belief that tanks need to breathe. I wouldn't try to seal up a tank so as to try to be air tight. What little water evaporation you have can be replenished during your weekly water change.

I don't have anyholes in the top except what is needed for filters and heater cords. I have lost 2 fish to jumping through very small holes so all holes are closed off.

since the water evaporates, i have to re-fill the tank.
That is not a water change. Only the water evaporates, leaving the tank with a higher concentration of waste such as nitrates etc.

Furthermore, by letting water evaporate and then topping up with tap water you will be raising the levels of heavy metals and other nasties in the water.

If you are going to top up evaporated water between water changes you should really just do so with pure RO water.
