Anyone?? the only other plants in the tank are plastic so i dont have to worry about it stealing the light, just wanted some floating plant as a shelter from the light for the fish to feel safer and somewhere for fry??

it should be ok, i have amazon frogbit and that does well.any floating plant for fish are fine, but osme need more work that others for example, duckweed grows quickley and will get into the filter.
water lettuce sill probally be fine,
but best wait till a plant expert come along

I don`t know a great deal about floating plants, but if it is on the surface I can`t see lighting be any kind of an issue.

Dave.

You may have to drop your water level depending on the type of lighting you have.
I had some trouble with WL I had brought in from the pond.
My lighting is the standard Juwel bar (s) and was too near the WL which was scorched.

Once I had dropped the water level everything was fine.
Of course, if you have an on tank luminaire you'll have even less trouble
