Hi i firstly had a nutrafin master test kit but after they put the wrong labels on the Ph bottles mixing them around i lost confidence.

Iv since bought an API ammonia test kit and it looks much much better. Id strongly advise an API master test kit which has everything you need to start and if you search the net you should beable to get it for around 17-20 quid! When i come to need a few bits and bobs im going to change over to that one :)

I would recommend API's freshwater master kit. As for best prices, Ebay proberly comes out on top.

Keith.

Cheers, how long do these usually last and how often would you guys reccomend testing my water? Next time I shall definitely check the internet! Lol cheers

Are you currently cycling your tank or has it been cycled and have you added your fish?

If you have cycled your tank and have just added fish maybe test it twice a day for a week or 2? and then drop the twice a day to once a day and then weekly id say. if you are yet to cycle then i have more info

im currently in the cycling phase, however I will be testing in the morning ao.hoping.for good results, so how often during this cycle and once I have fish?

Cycling its every 12 hours. If you get 0 nitrite and 0 ammonia at the 12th and 24th hour for a week then the tank should be ready to go with fish. When you introduce fish id recommend testing twice a day for maybe a week or two? if you get 0 on both then drop it to once a day for abit then once a week?

That then makes sure your tank is going good. Can even spot check. For the amount of tests you get its worth being 100% sure. If your adding fish every so often it may still be worth doing adleast once a day after the main batch of fish have gone in until the tank is settled.

Are you going to add a big dose of fish to start with?

cheers that's pretty much cleared it up! And not really, I've kept fish before however I am just starting again in a small way this time with the fluval edge aquarium so overall it has not got a large enough volume for a large amount of fish or fish of much size! Ha

I love the fluval edge and the new one they have just brought out the square-ish one! look well smart im working on getting one for the kitchen bench but the gf is not having it at the moment. Im really new to the hobby got my tank something like 4 months ago and its not long out of cycling so its nice to have some life in it :)

Yeah its definitely a good looking tank, mine is at my gfs as she really likes it however not sure was a smart move! Lol very nice tanks however very limited to its potential but am looking forward to the stocking phase! Nothing like caring for your fish :)

The stocking phase is the best i must say wish it could go on forever but once you get to max stock thats it, that excitement goes unless you expand and buy another tank haha. Sadly living in a top floor flat im extremely limited to what i can have :-( Seen a beautiful 600L tank but iv been told not until we move into a house grrr!

Couldn't agree more, sounds very nice, when I get a place of my own of live a huge tank with a wide range of beautiful fish, I'm also determined eventually to begin caring for marine fish however I understand how much care and attention they require so I intend to do a lot of research prior to this and also need to wait till ican fully commit to them :)

Thats my ultimate goal to get marine :) need to get a proper job first iv heard they are really expensive. One day i hope :) I guess i need to crawl before i can walk as they say. Id love a huge tank one day would be nice to have a tank where you can look at any fish and not have to worry about having a small tank stopping you haha.
