I have a 55 gallon tank with 2 filters, both for up to 60 gallons each. Everyone said not to get an underground filter. Anyways, I have marbles instead of gravel. I have a castle and a couple of the penn plax sea anemones. I rinsed everything and filled it up about 10 days ago. It is still not clear. It never has been. I added the conditioner that removes the chlorine when setting it up and today I added one tablet of the tablets that are supposed to clear your tank. It is at about 76-78 degrees and the filters are both wide open??? I don't know what to do. I just added the fish today and a few plants. I have a friend that set up the same tank at the same time and his is crystal clear. What am I doing wrong. I don't really know much about any of this stuff but I'm trying to learn. The only thing I can think of is that the tubes that come down from the filters are very close to the gravel. Should I take the bottom piece off? I appreciate your help!

Thanks,
Justin

I'm not sure what could be causing it to not clear up. Is it like a milky white or some other color? The only thing I can think of is if there is something in your filters causing it. Maybe it's tiny air bubbles coming from the filter.

One other thing you will have to keep an eye on is the ammonia and nitrite levels. Your tank isn't cycled so there aren't any bacteria present to break down the ammonia from fish waste. If you don't have a test kit set, I would suggest you get one of the master kits (liquid tests are much better) and check the ammonia and nitrite daily. You will most likely have to start doing daily water changes os 10 to 25 percent around the 2nd or 3rd day after adding fish so you can keep the ammonia and nitrite levels as low as possible since they are toxic and can kill your fish. What type and how many fish did you add?

It is kind of milky colored. It's kindof hard to describe. I can get a test kit. I might have one since it was a kit. I will look. I now have 6 fishes and I don't think the person who sold them knew much of what they were talking about.
Not that I know what I'm talking about, but I also don't sell fish for a living.

I have all the filters wide open. Should I pull the bottom part of my filter tube off so it sits higher? Is there any tablets I should add to make sure my fish are ok? Maybe like a multipurpose tablet???

Thanks again for your help!

use a diatom filter :D
Umm. I'm sorry. I don't even know what that is?
Also, I had a friend of mine that put up the same tank the same day and his is crystal clear???

the diatom filter is not going to help. its a bacterial bloom. sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesnt. Totally harmless. Read the above link

what if I didn't rinse the marbles very well? They didn't have much stuff on them when I put them in there. Would this have anything to do with it?
