Hi i have 2 tanks, a coldwater tank that ive had for years and the water is always crystal clear. My newer tank of 10 months is a tropical frehwater tank and the water is always green. What am i doing wrong?

its probably algae? might not be though.

what lights do you have / do you use co2/ fert's? how long are the lights on for?

you could try reducing or splitting the time of the lights (some people say it stresses the fish, but mine don't seem stressed at all) plants need about 8 -12 hours of light a day. if you have any in your tank that is

Hi
Thanks for your reply. The light is only on for a couple of hours per day. It is a white light. I have 13 very small fish in a 10 gallon tank and i feed them twice a day. I give them one smal pinch of flakes each time. Is this too much?

No direct sunlight. Its very frustrating to have one starkling clean tank and one filthy green! The fish seem happy though!
Thanks for your input.

Green water doesn't look nice, but it won't harm your fish, so at least that's one thing you don't have to worry about!

You could try a total black out; cover the tank completely and leave it for three or four days. You mustn't uncover the tank, even for feeding (fish can go for two weeks without food easily).

Algae may be the problem as the others have already said, my friend has this problem and we decided to cover up the tank for a few days and we did 3 50% water changes on different days, do you fish always eat all the food u give them?? Because if they don't this just sits at the bottom rotting
