Hi,

Is Water Hyacinth ok as a floating plant in a tropical tank?

Thanks
Squidward

I bought two times a couple of them.
I don't know what they are missing because the plants slowly die.

Yep they do Fine, You may find some die back but after they adjust they do great. The Do like Fast Flow, so that they are moving/spinning in the water.

great info. i'll put them close to the water flow.

Once they Settle and Start to Send Out Runners, they Grow Very Fast.
Also they are great Cleaner, as they Large Bushy Roots absorb so Much from the Water.

The WH is in my tank primarily as shelter for my Butterfly Fish. So I won't be able to provide too much surface movement.
But hopefully it will be ok.
And good to hear the roots take Nitrates out of the water.

Aren't water hyacinth's too big for a tank? would you have to drop the waterline somewhat?
we have quite a lot in my pond (only started out with three seperate pieces four months ago), and we'll be bringing some inside for over the winter so we have some next year too
