hi folks

I just bought a water hardness kit to test the water in my tanks - I was amazed at the readings 30 degrees DGH (537 parts per million).

Is this high ? how do I bring it down - I`ve just done a 50% water change but it`s still reading as above.

I tested plain water before I put it in the tank and even that read 20 DGH (358 ppm).

I am looking into what is killing my fish bit by bit (all my readings are fine, water changes done weekly, etc etc)

Hi Phil ...

I'm new to fish and water. My tap water is 300 ppm gH ... all the local shops have their tanks in this range or even higher and they claim the fish are acclimated to it and suggest leaving it at that level. Keep in mind if you do change hardness it needs to be done slowly ...

When I top off my tanks I use a bit of distilled water to avoid making the water any harder... and tapwater for water changes. Keeping your water at your tap water hardness should be obtainable.

There are also filter mediums that can remove Calcium and make water softer... but the message out here is keep the water where it is at ... I suppose there are exceptions.

Whats your other water values ??

Good Day ....
