Hi all

I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to whether rainbow fish like fast or slow moving water. I have had a powerhead in my tank for a while now creating extra flow, as I noticed that whenever I topped up the water during a water change the rainbows all seemed to love swimming in the part of the tank where I was adding the water. So I assumed they liked the movement and added the powerhead. I have four Bosemanis and 3 Red Rainbows, having just bought the red ones yesterday. The red ones seem extremely active (far more than the bosemanis) and I'm wondering if they don't like the movement in the tank. Any thoughts?

Thanks

From what I can gather Boseman's (Melanotaenia bosemani) and Red (Glossolepis incisus) Rainbows both naturally inhabit lake systems as opposed to rivers so from that I would assume that they would prefer a mild to moderate current. They adore water changes so may have been enjoying the fresh water as opposed to the flow but that is little more than speculation.
Hope this helps...

Post some photos!

I bought four Boesemanis first but cannot tell gender yet. I think they are Indonesian bred.
Then got two males which are bigger.
Cant get a decent photo yet. Need a better camera.
