Recently I have been doing quite a few water changes and have gotten through loads of water dechlorinators, which is costing a small fortune. What I would like to know is which brand is the cheapest and the best ( lasts the longest).

I'm not sure what is available in England but I use Stress Coat here in the US. I'm not sure about the cost either. I would think they all would be about the same. I don't know about lasing longer. When you put dechlorinator in, the chlorine is gone so it has done it's job. There really isn't anything that needs to last. I believe I read on the label that Stress Coat can be used to help restore the slime coat after fish have been handled/netted.

Hi B75 :)

IMHO, one of the best is Wardley's Chlor-Out.

It removes both chlorine and chloramine, is very inexpensive, and is used by "drops per gallon," which saves it from being wasted. It contains no aloe or other unnecessary additives that add to the price, and it's available both in the US and the UK. :D

Cheers for replies, when I meant lasting I meant how long would the bottle last not how long the dechlorinator lasts in the tank.

I will pop down lfs tomorrow and pick up some Wardleys chlor out, cheers Inchworm.

some people just fill up a bucket of water then put it somewhere for a couple of days for the chlorine and stuff to dissapear.

When I do a partial water change I use Stress Coat and Stress Zyme. Have never had any illness in the tank. There was samples of these products with the tank and I have never tried anything else but other products probably do the same thing. I just don't see the need to change. :) When one of my fish had some fluffy white stuff on it's lip (it had grazed it's mouth on an ornament) I put some extra Stress Coat and it went in a day or two.

Sorry to sound bossy but that would only get rid of chlorine, to remove chloramide you need to put something in such as Stress Coat. Some water companies put chloramide in as well as chlorine. :)

Yes and also I still need to add boiled water to bring the temperature up to 77, boiled water still contains some chemicals.

Hi B75 :)

Why don't you just adjust your water temperature at the tap? :dunno:

Boiling the water will concentrate whatever minerals are in there.

I don't use water from the hot tap because in the UK some hot water systems store the water in metal tanks and heavy metals such as copper are then present in the hot water. This would be harmful to the fish. It might be different in other countries. :)
