the water in my rio 125 aquarium has a very distinct brown tint. Should I increase the number of water changes which are about 10% every 7 days at the moment or just leave things as they are?

No wood. How often should you replace the carbon in the filter?

you need to change the carbon insert if the water is brown and you want it to be clear. A new carbon insert should make a huge difference in water color and clarity within 24 hours and within 48, it should be crystal clear
