About three days into a fishless cycle, I have decided to move the fish tank from my sons bedroom to my front room.

I have emptied the water into the bath (the bath was rinsed out first), as I was planning on keeping the tanks current water as it has already been treated with dechlorine and ammonia.

Firstly, should it be ok to re-use this water?

Secondly, the water looked clear in the tank, but it is obviously not when in the bath (see picture). Is the water meant to be this dirty, or should it be clear? - The gravel was all washed, and the bogwood was soaked for a day in hot water, with a water change once aswell.
The filter had been running for around three days also.

(It looks a bit more dirtier/yellow than it does in the picture)

I need a quick reply if possible, as I need to know whether or not I need to fill with clean water and start the fishless cycle all over again!!!

The yelowish tinge is caused by the bogwood, this can take several months to totally soak out of the wood. I would add new water & dechlorinator, there is a slight risk of contamination from anything that may have been left in the tub.

Your filter media, and to a slight extent your gravel, hold your nitrifying bacteria, changing the water shouldn't affect the cycle.

I don't think it's worth the hassle TBH! Remember it's the filter that you're cycling, not the actual water. So long as you've kept the filter wet and it hasn't been out the water too long I'd start afresh. As for the colour, yes, it looks ok, bogwood tends to change the colour of the water anyway, and no matter how well you clean the gravel there will still be 'bits' floating about til the filter takes care of it.

Cheers, I'll change the water then. :good:

It's visibly a lot clearer now, cheers.
