Water Clarifiers

Depends a lot on why the water is cloudy to be honest.

Most of them are mixtures of things but the main thing they do is flocculate what's in the water (make it clump) so that the filter can pick up fine particles. Makes the water go cloudy for a bit then clears it. That or it makes you do lots of water changes as you're so annoyed with the cloudy water it created.

How about cloudy water from it being a new tank with new water and new sand? Its sort of just a haze but im not sure if its because its new water or if its from the sand

Likely it's from the sand. It should settle down within a few days. I'd wait for that to happen rather than add chemicals to the tank. It seems no matter how much you wash sand before you put it in the tank, there's always some residue.

Yeah, i gave it about 80 rinses for about an hour and it still wouldnt run clear so i gave up. Its only a little hazy though compared to last time when my water looked like milk.

If its a newish set up, it's probably a bacterial bloom. Or from your sand, either way I would avoid adding chemicals to clear it up, it will go away. Carbon filters will work to keep the water clear also.
