i have just done my firstever water test on my tank could someone please tell me what the water condition is like.

ph-7.0,ammonia-0.25,nitrite-0.25,nitrate-40.

cheers kevin.

how long has your tank been set up. are you doing fish or fishless cycle. what is the nitrate reading of you tap water

you don't usually its just that i noticed that you have high nitrates and still showing ammonia where as in a typical cycle you wouldn't have both. it doesn't matter, you have just got a high tap water in nitrates. just means you will have to do lots of water changes and instead of diluting it could be adding to the problem if you keep delicate fish. take a look on here. it will probable help better than i can and show you where you are and where you need to get to.

thanks gnu,
should i see a daily noticeable change in the readings with a 20% water change every day or will it take time to show on the colour charts of my test kit.
thanks kevin.
