How often should I be doing a water change? I was told that it should be done every week and then I read that it should be done once every two weeks. And just to make it even more complicated my friend who also has fish told me that she changed her water once a month aaarrrrrgh! Please someone let me know!! :D

You will get many different answers here too! Some do theirs every week. Some every two. I have gone a month before a water change. If my nitrates are high (I don't have to worry about ammonia or nitrite) I do more frequent water changes. I'd say I do mine every 3-4 weeks without a problem. It also depends on the size of the tank. A 55 gallon is more stable than a 10 gallon. I would do much more frequent water changes on a smaller tank (or if it's overstocked).

We do a 25% water change on each of our discus tanks every 3 days.

Apparently they secrete some kind of hormone which can affect the growth of the fish sharing thr tank. Changing the water as often as we do keeps it nice and fresh for the breeding pairs.

Discus are very delicate fish that need that. They need good to perfect water or they wil die.
