Why do my fish swim at the top of the tank after a 10% water change? I have a pump etc and it is only off for a short period while the water is changed.

Hiya :D
Nothing to worry about, my fish do that too. They probably think that as you are messing about with their tank you are going to feed them as well.

I agree, whenever I'm doing anything around the tank they are always looking for a handout. Especially if I open the lid.

 Thanks, its just that they do it all the next morning. I thought that it was something to do with oxygen.

If your tank is cycled and you use de-chlorinated water at a similar temperature there should be no problems. Oxygen is rarely an issue. You don't realy turn off the pump for too long for a water change anyway. Do you have a filter though?
My fish do something similar when I do water changes... my danios come up to swim between my hands when I'm syphoning and all the other fish swim to the bottom in the hope of getting food (all my fish eat from the bottom) and they follow the cories around out of habit :p The cories follow the syphon and grab anything I stirr up :D

Mine come to the top when i open the lid or anything like said, they want food!!!!

:D Hi There, yes I have a Juwel starter tank which has a build in filter, pump and heater. Lost a Gourami at the weekend Gutted! :-(
