Mess things up how?

You can use a siphon or cup to remove water. For using a siphon, you can remove debris and uneaten food.

As a general rule you don't do a water change on a quarantine tank during the first week fish are in it. This gives the fish a chance to settle down and recover from the move (taken from the pet shop to your house). After a week you do water changes just like normal (partial water change and gravel clean the substrate once a week).

The only exception to this is if there is an ammonia or nitrite problem in the quarantine tank, then you do water changes to get the levels down to 0.

Clumsy.
I don't think the bottom needs heavy gravel ckeanins, rather gentle siphoning, so I guess I'll do it first thing tomorrow.

I think it's more the refill. I'll use a very small cup. The Furcatas are in good shape. I'm worried about the 2 CPDs
I have the heater on on the shelf below the tank, so temp is okay.
I'll top off with about half a gallon of treated water so the filter is consistent.

Thanks!
