hi all.....i have a 25 gallon tank thought i would clean the gravel with a vac.got alot of crap out of the water,did about a 40%.Was replacing the water from my tap,but i forgot we had a boil water alert from the city cause we have had heavy rain and the water has alot of setiment.I added the water back to the aquarime and turned everything back on,the water is very murkey was wondering if that will harm my fish have 2 in there right now a silver tetra and a tiger barb,was going to get more this weekend,should i wait until the water settles down or will i have to redo my tank over again (recycle it) thxs
Water gets cloudy sometimes. If the fish are behaving okay, I wouldn't fret too much. Just do frequent water changes when you can and maybe buy some water cloud remover. I have this stuff I put in my water that makes sediments and other crap break down so it's easier to be sucked into the filter. Good luck!
Well when you do a large water change like that, often times the water can be cloudy for a day or two. What is actually happening is that the water is cloudy due to a bacteria spike (which is a good thing).
I wouldn't do more than a 30% water change in that small of a tank though. You are at risk of putting the fish into shock or possibly exposing them to large amounts of chlorine (depending on your water system and how you add water to your tank). At this point I do not believe anything is wrong. However keep a close eye on them and watch for any abnormal behavior.
