I've noticed that here where I live we tend to do much bigger water changes than most in this forum. Is that true?

1. How often do you change water?
2. How much water do you change?
3. Why?
4. How much NO3 is there in your aquarium?
5. Your tap water readings? pH, KH, GH, NO3, NO2, NH3/NH4+?

My answers:
1. once a week or twice in three weeks.
2. 40-70%.
3. To keep water as clean as possible, reduce nitrate and phosphate and bad bacteria in water. To keep aquarium water near same as tap water and that way reduce stress.
4. 0-10.
5. pH 7.5, 4 dKH, 5 dGH, NO3 0, NO2 0, NH3/NH4+ 0.

1. once a week or twice in three weeks - depends on tank
2. 30-50%
3. Reduce Nitrates etc.
4. 10 - 50 (Depends on tank to tank and stocking / planting etc.)
5. (tank water) Again depends on tank - CO2 etc. but on average:

pH 7.0 - 7.6,
kH 11-12
gH 17 - 19
NO3 10-50
NO2 0
NH3/NH4+ 0

1. Depends on the tank - twice per week to once every two weeks

2. 25-40%, depending on the tank

3. Because this is more then I need to keep the water pristine and prevent perameter fluctuations

4. Before a water change, about 10-15

5. PH 8, GH 4, KH 4 for the tap water, only adjusted for certain fish requiring specific conditions

1. weekly on understocked tank (20 gal), twice weekly on fully stocked tank (33 gal).
2. 25% on 20 gal. 30% on 33gal.
3. Remove waste, don't have high nitrates
4. 20 gal NO3 20 ppm before water change. 33 gal NO3 10 ppm before water change.
5. Ph 7.6, NO2 0, NO3 0, NH3/NH4+ 0. not sure of KH & GH
